Grilled Bacon Wrapped Dates – Appetizer

On a night like Valentine’s Day, you want to have an elegant, but simple meal. One that shows your significant other that amount of thought and effort put into the meal. One of our favorite apps on a grill is bacon wrapped dates. At it’s simplest incarnation, this tasty app only requires two ingredients: bacon and dates. If you’re looking to get a little fancier you can also stuff with cheese to make your grilled app a bit more decadent. Bring the bacon and dates to room temperature. Slice the bacon into smaller strips and wrap based on your preferences. One tip we’d recommend is using a toothpick to hold the bacon and dates together. Place on a grill at 400 degrees and cook for 8 minutes on one side prior to flipping. Add an additional 7 minutes, or cook until you get your desired doneness.

Grilled Lobster Tail on a Big Green Egg

Grilled lobster tails, are an easy, special treat on Valentine’s Day

Grilled lobster tails can be cooked on a standard gas or charcoal grill, in addition to a grill/smoker like the Big Green Egg. While this recipe is a bit fancier than most, you will still be paying a fraction of the price that you would be by eating in a loud, crowded restaurant on Valentine’s Day.

Grilling a lobster tail may look a little complex, but with a kitchen shear and some patience, almost anyone can cook this recipe. There are some folks who like to keep the lobster meat in the shell. While others will use kitchen shear to cut the lobster shell from meaty portion of tail. We’ve put together a video of this technique for you to watch before the big day.

Once the lobster tail is prepped and ready to go – it is now ready to go on your grill. If you’re using a gas grill it’s around medium heat, if it’s a Big Green Egg or a smoker, we’re looking at between 350 and 400 degrees. One of the reasons we like this recipe is that it pairs well with the bacon wrapped dates, and half the prep work is done. You can keep the grill at the same temperature and rotate your items as they are cooked. One thing to keep in mind – you do not want to overcook the lobster. It will take about six minutes on each side. Don’t forget to liberally brush butter on the meat as it cooks!
